As we come up on the area when James was talking me, I see a sweet-looking girl. She wore glasses, light purple ones that looked pink in the dark. She had dirty blonde hair, not much shorter than me, and hazel eyes, like me. She looked really young, I wondered how old she was.
James: "This is who I wanted you to meet. I'll give you time to talk."
Me: "Ummm...hi. What's your name?" I felt awkward saying that. In a place filled with all my friends and family, I had to ask who someone was?
She smiled really wide, it made me have to smile. I thought it was weird how neither of us knew about this, but she still didn't know the reason James wanted me to be here.
Virginia: "Hi, David. I'm Virginia!"
Me: "Hey, Virginia," I notice I'm still smiling, "Did you know that I'd be here tonight?"
Virginia: "No, not until about 7 minutes ago, but apparently James knew for a whole week!"
We both laugh. "Yeah, why didn't he tell you that I'd be here?" I say hopefully, trying to get an answer.
Virginia: "I have no idea. He kept it form both of us all this time. It kind of makes me mad, we're going to have to give him a talking to." She starts laughing and waves her fist in the air.
We both don't talk for a few minutes, I can tell it's just as awkward for her as it is for me. I actually feel a little calm at that because neither of us have an idea what to say. She looks down, obviously trying to come up with something to say, as am I in my own head...she finally pipes up.
Virginia: "David, how's everything going with your new CD?"
Me: "Oh, just wonderful! We recorded a new song that was sent to us and I really love the lyrics!"
Virginia: "Really? I just recently sent Jive a few songs..."
Me: "You write songs?"
Virginia: "Since I was 12."
Me: "Oh my gosh, no way! What's the title?"
Virginia: "One of them was 'No Mystery'..."
I cut her off, "NO WAY!"
Virginia: "That's the song you just recorded?!"
Me: "Yeah! You really have potential! I loved those lyrics!"
Virginia: "Aww, well thank you!" She blushes into bright red.
Me: "How many songs have you written?"
Virginia: "Over 60..."
Me: "Woah, you've been busy!!"
For a good portion of the night, we talked about some of the new songs I've written and co-written and some of the songs she's written. Sometimes, if she remembered the lyrics, she would give me a sneak peek. And if I remembered some of the lyrics to some of my songs, I would sing some to her. I might have gotten in trouble for that if my manager was here.
Virginia's POV:
David began singing some of the lyrics to one of the most recently written songs, I couldn't remember the title after he began. Oh my gosh, his voice was just glorious! He sounded so great in them. Sometimes, I forgot that we were there with everyone else. It was a very rare occasion when someone came over to us and started talking, which just helped with forgetting that the night was going by.
David: "Virginia, are you new to Murray?" He says after a few minutes of silence.
Me: "Umm, no, I'm just on vacation, but I wish I was." I put on a sad face.
David: "You like it that much?" He says curiously.
Me: "Well everyone is so nice and the atmosphere is just heavenly..." I start going over the time I had spent in Utah.
David: "I know, sometimes when I'm away, I just think about my friends and family and it helps me get to sleep at night. I miss them so much. It brings me back to Utah."
Me: "It must be horrible being so far away for such long periods of time, I don't know how I'd do that."
David: "It is. Especially on the days when it's hard and I just want someone to talk to. Sometimes I don't even have a chance to call a friend for help and advice." He starts looking depressed.
Me: "David, do you have a piece of paper?"
David: "Yeah" he takes it out and hands it to me.
I take out a pen and start writing down something on it, that he obviously had no clue about. I motion him to put out his hand and he does. I put the note, gently into his hand and he smiles.
Me: "Anytime, day or night, I'm there for you."
Omniscient POV:
Both of them couldn't believe that they were already connecting on such an intimate level.
