"Long Awaited" Chapter 39: "All I Want For You"

Virginia's POV:
I had to tell my parents I was engaged. They would not be happy for me to spring it on them in a few months. I actually wasn't very sure how they'd react today, considering they only met David a week ago, but they seemed to really like him. David and my dad really hit it off, talking about just random guy stuff, it was very fun to watch. And my mother just adored David's gentlemanly nature and kind heart. She said it kind of felt like his aura was exceeding his body's limits and reaching out to those around him. I didn't know she had those words in her, but I guess she proved me wrong. Well anyway, the next day I asked my parents if I could come over later and they made absolutely no objection. All I said was that I really wanted to talk to them to put it plain and simple and save the surprise for it them later.
THE BIG REVEAL:
That night, I drove over to my parent's house without David because he had to do some surprise recordings that the label just scheduled. I guess he didn't mind it because he seemed happy that I was going to see my parents and tell them of our plans alone. I didn't know why, but "okay."
At my parents' house, they immediately rush into things and ask me what's wrong because it seemed like a big thing over the phone.
"Calm down!" I exclaim to my worried mother. "Nothing's wrong."
"Well, what's up then?" she asks coolly.
"Well, Mom...where's Dad?" I ask.
She thinks for a second and responds in another question, "Why? Did you need him?"
"Not really, but I thought i should tell him what I'm going to tell you, too," i say after a second of silence.
My mom let's out a cry, "RAY! VIRGINIA NEEDS TO TELL US SOMETHING!" I knew she was just playing around though, she did that a lot.
My dad emerges from the upstairs bedroom in a robe and says, "Uh-huh?"
"Dad, please...sit down," I say calmly.
He hesitates and asks, "Is something wrong?"
"No..." I try to think of something else to say, "Absolutely nothing! It's actually great news!"
My mom blurts out, "Well don't keep us waiting! Say it!"
I bite my lip and just say it like she told me to, "David and I are getting married!"
With the silence that now engulfed the room, I could not tell if this was a good or a bad sign. I looked first to my father, whose mouth was hanging open and then to my mother, who had her eyes fixated on me in shock, but there was no revelation if they liked this plan yet. I sat there in suspense for about 2 minutes until my mother finally snapped out of it.
Mom: "OH MY GOSH! CONGRATULATIONS!"
Dad: "I didn't know he'd ask you so fast after I gave him permission."
Me: "What?"
Dad: "What?"
Me: "You knew about this?"
Dad: "Well of course! You wouldn't be getting married if I didn't!"
Mom: "Honey, you have a full blessing! We love David! We love you! And if you love David and you're happy, then that's all we want for you!"
Then I was the one sitting there in shock, with my mouth hanging open, gaping at my father who kept this secret for so long. Well, it wasn't so long as it was how good he kept it silent.
Me: "OH MY GOD! I LOVE YOU!" I jump up after coming to terms with reality.
I. Was. Getting. Married.
