"Long Awaited" Chapter 9: "A Hardship and A Surprise"

James's POV:
Later in the night as I'm walking home from school, I get the chance to think more clearly in what I had done. "Was this the right thing?" "Should I have done that?" And then my thoughts pass through my head like a bunch of train cars heading to its doom. "No, it wasn't right." "I should not have done that." I am overcome with feelings and become really upset when I think about that, because the two people involved are both friends of mine, great friends and I don't know what I'd do if I'd hurt either of them.
The next day at school, I feel unusually unhappy, I am trying to keep everything to myself. I don't want anyone to know what I did because "What if it didn't work out between the two of them?" Then I realize the words I'm saying and it catches me off guard because I'm usually very optimistic and I'm already planning for a break-up? That was not right! "What happened to perfect for each other?" I yell to myself constantly throughout the day. At one point during the day, I gave in to temptation and went to the school counselor.
Mrs. Giordano: "James, what seems to be the problem? Your note seemed very unlike you."
Me: "I think I did something bad."
Mrs. Giordano: "What do you mean, 'bad', it can't be that horrible. You're still alive and healthy, aren't you?"
Me: "Well, yes, but I think I did something that can cause two people a lot of pain."
Mrs. Giordano: "You're not dealing drugs, are you?"
Me: "ABSOLUTELY NOT, MRS. G!"
Mrs. Giordano: "You didn't kill anyone?"
Me: "NO!!"
Mrs. Giordano: "Well then it can't be that bad, can it?"
Me: "Well, not really. But I feel horrible if what I did doesn't work out for the two people I set up a meeting for."
Mrs. Giordano: "Please, tell me, James."
I explain the whole situation to her right from the very start. She seems to be very entranced by the story, like she's reading a really good book, but this is real life and I'm terrified. She listens carefully and works things out diligently in her head before responding and gives me some advice on what to do. "Just let things play out" she says to me confidently, "You can't do anything yet if they don't even know each other, can you? For all you know, it might work out, am I correct?" I keep the words she said in my head to remind me that there's always hope.

A few days later...
Virginia's POV:
11:47am...
My phone begins to ring and I am still sleeping a little, but I decide to pick it up. I look at caller ID and see that it's Jessica
Me: "Hey."
Jessica: "Did I wake you?"
Me: "Just a little, but that's alright."
Jessica: "I'm sorry, I can call back later if you want."
Me: "No, it's fine."
Jessica: "Well, James, Cody, and Kevin want to show you around the town. They wanted me to call you and let you know. They think that you would like to see what they're going to show you. But they don't want me to tell you."
Me: "Oh come on!" I get anxious, "I don't like being on the edge of my seat!"
Jessica: "You're going to have to come to find out!" she teases me a little.
Me: "Ugh, I'm up! What time do they want me to meet them and where?"
Jessica: "Temple Square at 1pm? Is that okay? If not, I can call them and tell them another time which would better work for you?"
Me: "I'll be there, thanks for the heads up. Are you coming to Temple Square?"
Jessica: "Yeah. All of us will be there, don't worry."
Me: "Alright, see ya."
So I actually decide to get up, but as I do I think "Who knew having such energetic friends would kill me like this" and I laugh. I take a shower, get a nice outfit on, and get ready to leave the resort. My mother and father are still sleeping, "Lucky Them" I think. They'd go nuts if they didn't know where I was. I write a note saying:
"Mom, Dad...
My new friend, Jessica, called and told me that my friends Cody, James, and Kevin wanted to show me around town, with Casey and Veronica. She said they had something special to show me and you know me when it comes to surprises, I MUST KNOW! So I am going to meet them all at Temple Square and they will take me from there. I have my cell phone so if you want to check up on me and see how everything's doing, just call. I hope you don't mind, thanks.
Lots of Love,
Virginia"
